This product worked best on our 3 cats. Two are short haired tabbies and the other is a long haired cat. They also seemed to enjoy the whole process. Unfortunately, it did not do as good a job on our two dogs. It didn't work so well on the short haired dog and the big dog, a hound/retriever mix, growled at me whenever I tried to use it on him. He is normally a mild mannered fellow, so I have to think it hurt him somehow. I was very, very gentle with it, so I don't think I used the product improperly.
